Estudiantes – Platense

Estudiantes are experiencing a great moment of form. Last Sunday, they showed an excellent performance to beat Godoy Cruz (the best team in the league so far) 2-1 away thanks to goals from Javier Altamirano and Tiago Palacios. Eduardo Dominguez’s men made it 18 points in the Copa Liga Profesional, sitting in second in group B and trailing their last opponents by just one point. In fact, El Pincha are unbeaten in their last 13 league games, having won eight and drawn five in that time. At home, Estudiantes haven’t lost any of their last seven (five victories and two stalemates). Javier Correa and Eros Mancuso remain out injured on Wednesday.

Platense showed slight improvements in coaches Sergio Gomez and Favio Orsi’s debut at the club and registered a scoreless home stalemate against Racing Club in an uneventful game. However, the men in charge have a lot of work to do as El Calamar are now on five league games without a win, drawing three and losing two in that time. Accumulating just seven points in the Copa Liga Profesional, they are leading the bottom spot in the point-average table by just four points. Platense are winless in their last seven on away turf (three draws and four losses).

Estudiantes will be leaders of Group B with a win but also would get much closer to secure a playoff spot considering Racing lost on Tuesday. They’ve been quite solid lately, they just finished Godoy Cruz undefeated run and should be able to win a home against the poor Platense who have only 3 goals scored in 8 games this season and just changed coach.
