Argentine Primera Division: Union vs Estudiantes Cruz Odds for February 1, 2024

Union – Estudiantes

After a problematic season in 2023, when they secured the top-flight status in the last round, Union Santa Fe started the new year with a massive 1-0 away success at Racing Club, taking all three points thanks to a goal from Joaquin Mosqueira in the first half. El Tatengue made it two consecutive victories in league action and climbed into 22nd place of the point-average table, leapfrogging Velez Sarsfield, Platense and CA Central Cordoba. Union have been unbeaten in their last 13 at home, with five victories and eight draws. All regulars are at Cristian Gonzalez’s disposal for Thursday. Coach Cristian Gonzalez will repeat the XI.

Even though they had played in cup action just three days before, Estudiantes still had enough to start their league campaign in a happy way last Sunday. Thanks to a strike from Eros Mancuso in the 94th minute, El Pincha beat Belgrano 1-0 at home to take three massive points. As a result, the side extended their unbeaten streak to six league matches (four victories and two stalemates). On away turf, Estudiantes succumbed to a single defeat across their last five in this competition, winning two and drawing two.

Both played well last weekend, Union getting a surprise win at Racing and Estudiantes a late but definitely deserved one at home vs Belgrano where they created lots of chances to score. I’m surprised by this very short totals line, Union looked good with playmaker Lucas Gamba leading the attack, same as Estudiantes with veteran Enzo Perez so I expect at least a couple of goals here.
