Barracas Central – River Plate
Barracas Central new coach Alejandro Orfila had a rough debut last Friday: his team struggled to get a lucky 1-1 home draw against Velez Sarsfield at Lanus. Following that result, El Guapo took their first point in group A but made it seven league games without a win, drawing five and losing two. In fact, Barracas haven’t claimed any victories in the last four as the hosting side (it’s been three stalemates and one loss). They will host this one at Lanus.
After finishing as the best team in the league in 2023, River Plate experienced a disappointing debut this season. Last Sunday, they had to settle for a 1-1 home draw against Argentinos Juniors following a poor performance. That result means El Millonario claimed a single victory across their last six matches in this competition, along with three stalemates and two losses in regular time. In fact, River lost 3-1 to Rosario Central in their last away game after a four-match unbeaten streak of two wins and two draws on the road. Pablo Solari, Manuel Lanzini, Milton Casco and Matias Kranevitter remain unavailable. Facundo Colidio is doubtful for Wednesday, affected by a muscle problem.
River looked very poor in their first game at home against Argentinos that all their fans were extremely disappointed but it’s hard to say that it was not coming considering that they’ve lost important players in the offseason and barely added any new ones. They will still have a lot of missings here like Solari, Lanzini, Casco, Kranevitter and more, so even though they are expected to beat Barracas who are playing at Lanus’ stadium because their own field is under renovations, this spread is probably too high to cover.
