Atletico Tucuman vs San Martin de Tucuman

Atletico Tucuman arrives at this weekend’s derby in a dreamlike situation. Last weekend, they beat Belgrano 3-1 away to make it three wins in a row and four in the last five Superliga matches (along with their only defeat this season at Godoy Cruz), which means El Decano remain occupying the second spot of the table on 28 points, only two behind leaders Racing Club. Atletico also is unbeaten at Jose Fierro Stadium, having claimed four victories and two draws.

San Martin de Tucuman wasted a big opportunity to climb out of the relegation zone last time out when drawing 0-0 with Colon at home. El Ciruja wasted several goalscoring chances and weren’t able to claim a deserved win. The side is on 13 points in as many games, having failed to win in their last three games (at two draws and one defeat). San Martin hasn’t yet claimed any triumphs on the road, earning only two points from 18 available.

A derby is always intense and hard-fought and San Martin will certainly be tough to beat, but Atletico Tucuman are the better side here. I’m going with a home win.
