Velez vs River
Velez Sarsfield fans will have felt devastated after the team’s 2-1 away defeat to Independiente in last Sunday’s six-pointer as they conceded in the fifth minute of stoppage time. El Fortin remain on three points in two Copa Liga Profesional rounds and, having won only one of their last five league games (two draws and two losses), they are just two points above the relegation spot in the aggregate table at the moment.
Meanwhile, defending champions River Plate returned to their usual skills last Sunday, when beating Barracas Central 5-1 at home even after trailing first. El Millonario collected their first three points in the Copa Liga Profesional and made it four victories and two draws across their last seven league games, along with a single defeat. On a sorry note, Martin Demichelis’ men have been struggling on their travels: River are on four away matches without a win in domestic action, drawing two and losing two since beating Banfield 4-1 in June.
River showed everyone they are alive when last week they trashed Barracas, and I expect them to continue on this path against this very poor Velez.
