Newell’s vs Lanus
Newell’s Old Boys produced an excellent debut in the Copa Liga Profesional last Monday, when beating CA Central Cordoba with winger Brian Aguirre in superb form. Having succumbed to a single defeat in their last five league games (along with two victories and two stalemates), La Lepra are now approaching the continental spots in the aggregate table, trailing the last Copa Sudamericana berth by three points. Furthermore, Gabriel Heinze’s men made it eight home matches without defeat in domestic action, winning three and drawing five.
Lanus wasted a big chance of climbing into the Copa Libertadores spots last Sunday, when they lost to San Lorenzo 1-0 at home in a heated six-pointer. As a result, El Granate claimed a single victory in their last six matches in league action, drawing two and losing three, a streak that dropped them to the fifth place of the aggregate table, two points behind Boca Juniors at the moment. Lanus won only one of their last 12 away matches, along with seven stalemates and four losses in that spell.
If Newell’s can continue with what they’ve shown last week they should win here, but since Lanus can be irregular and beat anyone I’ll go for the OVER on this very low totals line that should happen considering they both have good attacking players.
