Union vs Racing Club
Union Santa Fe secured their first victory under recently-appointed boss Cristian Gonzalez in the Liga Profesional round 27, when beating Defensa y Justicia 2-0 at home. That victory allowed them to break a five-match winless streak of four draws and one loss and also make it 30 points, opening a five-point gap over the relegation spot in the aggregate table, now shared by Huracan and Colon. At home, Union are on six matches without defeat, winning three and drawing three in that time. Winger Imanol Machuca has been sold to Brazilian side Fortaleza EC while striker Gonzalo Morales is the only new face at the club after arriving from Boca Juniors. Defensive midfielder Yeison Gordillo reached the yellow-card limit and is suspended.
Racing Club saw their ten-match unbeaten streak of four victories and six stalemates in league action coming to an end in their last Liga Profesional match, losing 2-1 away at champions River Plate in an entertaining game. Following that result, La Academia remain out of the Copa Sudamericana places after an irregular campaign, accumulating 36 points so far. Fernando Gago’s men won only one of their last nine away matches in domestic action, drawing four and losing four. Racing added five important players to their squad, including Roger Martinez (from America CF, Mexico), who is out due to a muscle injury, Agustin Almendra (Boca Juniors) and Juan Quintero (Junior, Colombia).
Racing will have their minds on next week Copa Libertadores Quarterfinal vs Boca, but colombian playmaker Juan Fernando Quintero is expected to make his debut, so while defensively they should be weak, they should improve in attack and 2 goals have to be definitely possible here.
