Independiente vs Boca
Independiente are still unable to escape the relegation fight. Last Sunday, the team showed another terrible performance and succumbed to a deserved 1-0 away defeat at Atletico Tucuman in an uneventful game. That result means El Rojo won only one of their last four league matches, along with one draw and two losses. Their last result dropped them down to the 23rd spot of the Liga Profesional table on 28 points, just six above the relegation spot in the aggregate rankings, occupied by Huracan. Independiente lost 2-0 to Newell’s Old Boys in their last home matches after six games unbeaten at Estadio Libertadores de America (four wins and two draws).
Boca Juniors continue to improve game after game. Last Monday, the side secured an important 2-1 home success over Newell’s Old Boys, with Valentin Barco and Cristian Medina finding the back of the net. Jorge Almiron’s men are now on five league matches without defeat, winning four and drawing one. That streak allowed them to climb into eighth spot of the Liga Profesional table on 41 points, just three behind the last Copa Libertadores berth, occupied by Defensa y Justicia at the moment. In addition, Boca won 3-1 at Gimnasia LP in their last away game to break a three-match winless streak of one draw and two defeats on the road in league action.
This is a derby, Independiente can’t afford to lose this at home and Boca looked improved lately scoring 2+ in 5 of their last 7 games so I’ll go for the OVER here on this low totals line.
