Estudiantes vs River Plate
Thanks to goals from Mariano Pavone and Fernando Zuqui, Estudiantes claimed their first away win in the Superliga by beating Banfield 2-0 last Sunday. After a mini-crisis which included five league games without a win (2 points out of 15), Leandro Benitez’s men are improving, having won their last two matches. That means they are now on 11 points with a game in hand. Playing as hosts at Quilmes, they managed eight points from 15 available.
Even though coach Marcelo Gallardo fielded an alternative XI, River Plate had enough to beat Aldosivi 1-0 at home, with young playmaker Cristian Ferreira netting his first goal as a professional footballer. El Millonario managed four wins in their last five league commitments (losing at Colon 1-0 in their only defeat this term) to reach 16 points with a game in hand. Away from home, River grabbed eight points from 15 in an offer. On Tuesday, they visited Gremio from Brazil in the Copa Libertadores, winning 2-1, which means they advanced to the final.
Estudiantes is improving lately and River will use a mixed lineup, resting a few regulars to make sure they are 100% ready for the 1st Copa Libertadores final vs Boca next week, so I have to go with the hosts getting something from this match.
