Argentine Primera Division: Lanus vs Newell’s odds for May 20, 2023

Lanus vs Newell’s

Lanus put up a good fight on their visit to Gimnasia LP last Monday, but they finally succumbed to a heartbreaking 1-0 away defeat after conceding in the second minute of stoppage time. That result put an end to their five-match unbeaten streak of three victories and two draws in league action, but El Granate continue producing a very good campaign in the Liga Profesional, sitting into one of the continental spots with 25 points (even holding one game in hand). In fact, Lanus are on four home matches without defeat, winning three and drawing one in that spell.

Newell’s Old Boys showed a great display of football last Saturday to claim an easy 2-0 victory over Sarandi Arsenal at home, with winger Ramiro Sordo netting a brace. That success comes right on time for them as La Lepra managed to stop a four-match winless streak of two draws and two defeats in league action, accumulating 23 points to climb into 11th spot of the Liga Profesional table. However, Newell’s have been weak on away turf so far, claiming a single victory in eight domestic matches this term, along with three stalemates and four losses.

Odds on Lanus look too generous considering how solid they’ve been at home and how poor Newell’s has been away, so I’m going with the hosts here.
