Argentinos Jrs – Union
Argentinos Juniors couldn’t adapt very well to Gabriel Milito’s decision to field a mostly alternative XI last Saturday. As a result, the team succumbed to a 2-0 away defeat to relegation candidates Sarmiento. That loss put an end to their four-game unbeaten streak of two victories and two draws in league action, and means El Bicho remain on 14 points in ten matches in this competition, having won four, drawn two and lost four in an irregular campaign. On a positive note, Argentinos have been without defeat in their last six at home in this competition, winning four and drawing two.
Gustavo Munua’s departure has not yet resulted in an improvement for Union Santa Fe. The team suffered a heavy blow, losing 3-0 to Belgrano at home under interim boss Marcelo Mosset. That result extended their winless streak to four league games, taking a single point in that time. As a result, El Tatengue remain on seven points after ten rounds, dropping down to the bottom spot of the league table (one behind Atletico Tucuman and Sarandi Arsenal). Furthermore, Union are without a win in their last 15 away matches, having drawn eight and lost seven since beating Banfield 3-2 in July. Mauro Luna Diale is set to return from suspension. On the other hand, Yeison Gordillo is suspended after seeing a red card against Belgrano and Imanol Machuca will serve the second game of his ban.
Argentinos’ decision to use a reserves lineup didn’t go well on Saturday but their starters needed a rest and are available now to return so I expect them to beat this poor Union that still doesn’t have a new coach and are bottom of the table.
