Racing Club vs Sarmiento
Racing Club showed a worrying version last Monday and ended up losing 2-0 away at Godoy Cruz, who had lost their previous three games. That result put an end to La Academia’s three-match unbeaten streak of two victories and one draw in this competition. Therefore, Fernando Gago’s men are now occupying one of the mid-table places of the league table on eight points, trailing leaders San Lorenzo and Defensa y Justicia by five. Racing registered one victory and two draws at Estadio Presidente Peron in 2023.
Sarmiento played their best match of the season in round six, when they managed to beat Rosario Central 4-1 at home despite having trailed first. The team succumbed to a single defeat across their last four league matches, winning two and drawing one in that spell, which allowed the side to make it eight points in six matches and also open a four-point gap over the first relegation spot in the point-average table, occupied by Platense.
Sarmiento has been solid playing away lately but if Racing has any chance at fighting for anything in this tournament, they definitely need to beat the relegation teams at home.
