Banfield vs Union
Having won only one of their last eight league matches (two draws, five losses), Banfield start this season threatened by relegation: they are now nine points above the drop line (excluding the newly-promoted sides). Furthermore, El Taladro collected just two points from the last 12 on offer at home. After the league season ended, the team also lost to Talleres 1-0 in the Copa Argentina semi-finals. The club added important reinforcements to their squad like Brahian Aleman (from Gimnasia LP), Eric Remedi (MLS side San Jose Earthquakes), Emanuel Olivera (Atletico Nacional, Colombia) and Sebastian Sosa Sanchez (Everton, Chile).
Union Santa Fe showed a poor performance in 2022, ending in 20th place in the aggregate table. Gustavo Munua’s men haven’t claimed any victories in their last four league games, drawing two and losing two. On away turf, they have been winless in the last ten (five stalemates and five defeats). Luciano Aued (from Chile’s Universidad Catolica) and Thiago Vecino (Liverpool, Uruguay) are most relevant signings at the club, who sold Juan Ignacio Nardoni to Racing Club and Juan Carlos Portillo to Talleres. Jonathan Alvez also left.
Banfield looks stronger this season, playmaker Brahain Aleman should make a difference for them, while Union looks weaker without Portillo and Alvez.
