Independiente vs Newell’s
Independiente are showing clear improvements in their latest games. Last Monday, the team secured a big 1-0 away success at Union Santa Fe thanks to a goal from Lucas Romero in the second half. Therefore, El Rojo are now on three consecutive victories in the Liga Profesional, which allows them to accumulate 24 points in 20 games. It’s still a poor campaign, but Julio Falcioni’s men keep their hopes alive with regard to the Copa Sudamericana tickets (sitting eight points behind the last qualifying berth in the aggregate table, occupied by Godoy Cruz).
Newell’s Old Boys’ promising three-match winning streak after coach Javier Sanguinetti’s departure came to an end last Saturday, when the team deflated their performance and ended up losing to Sarmiento 1-0 at home. Following that result, La Lepra remain on 29 points in the Liga Profesional, which still allows them to occupy one of the Copa Sudamericana places in the aggregate table after a decent campaign throughout the whole season.
Even though Independiente might not have their top scorer Leandro Fernandez I’ll still trust them to beat this depleted Newell’s that is missing a lot of regulars due to injuries.
