Newell’s vs Sarmiento
Newell’s Old Boys are living a new life after coach Javier Sanguinetti’s departure. Last Wednesday, the team managed a key 2-1 away success at Aldosivi under interim boss Adrian Coria. As a result, La Lepra made it three consecutive victories in league action to accumulate 29 points in the Liga Profesional table. Thanks to that positive run, they hold onto one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate rankings. At home, Newell’s lost only one of the last four, winning two and drawing one in that spell.
Sarmiento succumbed to their second consecutive defeat in league action last Monday, when they lost 2-1 to Independiente at home despite having taken the first lead. In fact, Israel Damonte’s men lost four of their last seven Liga Profesional matches (winning one and drawing two), which means they remain on 22 points and continue approaching the relegation places in the respective table. On away turf, Sarmiento secured only eight points from 30 on offer following two victories, two draws and six losses.
Despite losing their coach and having a lot of injured players, Newell’s has found their best form of the season with 3 consecutive wins and I can see them continuing this run against this struggling Sarmiento.
