Sarmiento – Independiente
Sarmiento displayed a worthy performance on their visit to Union Santa Fe last Thursday, but they ended up losing 1-0 in a hard-fought match. Therefore, Israel Damonte’s men claimed a single win across the last six league games, drawing two and losing three, which means they remain on 22 points. It’s a decent campaign that allows them to stay out of the relegation spots in the respective table. At home, Sarmiento registered four victories, two stalemates and two losses in the Liga Profesional.
Independiente showed their best version last Thursday and claimed a much-celebrated 3-0 home success over Aldosivi. Thanks to that win, El Rojo put an end to their six-game winless streak of four draws and two defeats in the Liga Profesional. The team accumulated 18 points in as many games in this competition, which is still a terrible campaign for one of the Argentinian big five. Independiente are on three away games without a win, drawing two and losing one since beating Colon in early August.
Despite last Thursday’s win, I’m still not convinced by this poor Independiente. Sarmiento at home will be a much tougher rival than the poor Aldosivi and can put them in trouble.
