Junior (Colombia) vs Colon (Argentina)
Two months ago, Junior has beaten Lanus on penalties after a 1-0 home win (with Luis Diaz scoring in the 81st minute of the game) to reach this round-of-16. In the league, the team won 3-1 over La Equidad at home last Saturday to stop a four-game winless run in all competitions (two draws, two defeats). Junior is sitting in the fifth spot of the league table on 20 points, five behind leaders Deportes Tolima and four above Deportivo Cali, who are occupying the first berth out of the playoffs zone. Julio Comesana’s men have also been unbeaten in their last eight home matches, with seven successes in that spell. Their last defeat at Estadio Metropolitano dates back to May (1-0 to Independiente Santa Fe).
Colon also won on penalties against Sao Paulo from Brazil even though they lost 1-0 at home. The team conceded 18 minutes from time and goalkeeper Leonardo Burian was superb in the penalty shootout to allow his team to advance to the round-of-16. Last Friday, El Sabalero stopped a seven-game winless run by beating Godoy Cruz 3-1 at home, which was their first league win this season. Colon is sitting in 19th on six points after six weeks. On away turf, they managed a single point from the last nine available since winning in Brazil over Sao Paulo 1-0 on August 2nd.
Junior seems unbeatable at home and Colon find trouble when they travel so I expect a home win here.
