Godoy Cruz has dropped down to the bottom spot of the Group C table on three points after their 2-1 away defeat at Olimpia in Paraguay two weeks ago. However, they will advance to the round-of-16 if they win the two remaining games. Last Saturday, El Tomba beat Patronato on penalties after a 1-1 home draw to advance in the Superliga Cup. They failed to win on regular time in their last five matches in all competitions, drawing three and losing two. At home, they are still unbeaten under Lucas Bernardi’s tutelage, with one success and three draws.
Meanwhile, Sporting Cristal has climbed into third place of the group table on five points after their first Copa Libertadores’ victory in 2019, having beaten Universidad Concepcion from Chile 2-0 at home. Last Friday, they drew 1-1 away at Real Garcilaso, which means the team are now second-placed in the Peruvian league on 23 points, one behind leaders Deportivo Binacional. Cristal is unbeaten in their last three matches in all competitions, earning seven points in that spell, but they managed only four points in the last four travels.
Godoy Cruz will find it tough to play without two of their best players (striker Santiago Garcia will miss out due to a knee injury and winger Angel Gonzalez is suspended) and Sporting Cristal are weak on the road so I expect a tight game here.
