Independiente vs Atletico Tucuman
Independiente’s crisis is getting deeper game after game. Last Wednesday, the team played below expectations again and ended up losing 2-1 away at Defensa y Justicia. It was their fifth consecutive league game without a win (one draw and four losses in that spell). El Rojo accumulated eight points in nine rounds in the Liga Profesional, which places them in 23rd spot in the aggregate table (a terrible campaign for one of the Argentinian Big Five).
Atletico Tucuman are now living a dream. Last time out, they won 1-0 over Sarmiento at home and, even though the side started this tournament focusing on escaping relegation, El Decano remain as one of the Liga Profesional leaders after nine rounds, with 19 points. In fact, Lucas Pusineri’s men have been unbeaten in their last 12 league commitments, with six victories and six draws in that span (four consecutive clean sheets). On away turf, Atletico are without defeat in the last eight, having won two and drawn six.
This game should have been played on Friday but instead was postponed to Saturday and will be played behind closed doors on neutral ground due to security reasons, because Independiente fans are very angry with the club board. In this crisis and without their top two scorers, I think it’s Atletico Tucuman chance to take something from this match,
