Argentinos Juniors vs Boca Juniors

Argentinos Juniors managed their first league victory last time out when beating Lanus 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Gaston Veron (his first strike as a professional footballer). Alfredo Berti’s men are now on five points and three league games without defeat since losing 1-0 at Gimnasia LP in the season opener. They claimed four of those points at their own stadium, having drawn with Godoy Cruz in week two. Last Sunday, El Bicho lost 2-0 against second-tier side Temperley and were knocked out of the Copa Argentina in the round-of-16.

Boca Juniors returned to winning ways in the Superliga by beating Velez Sarsfield 3-0 at home in the last round. The game was easier than expected and the team were able to regain their confidence after earning just a single point in their two previous league games (away at Estudiantes and Huracan). El Xeneize is now on seven points in the league table, trailing leaders Racing Club by three. Last weekend, Boca beat San Martin Tucuman 2-0 and reached the Copa Argentina round-of-16.

Boca Juniors seem the better side in general terms, but they are finding trouble on their travels and Argentinos are confident at home, where they are yet to concede. Also, Boca has their first leg of the Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals next Wednesday, what means that this is not the most important game for them this week.
