Argentinos Juniors vs Independiente
Argentinos Juniors couldn’t handle a large number of absences last Saturday and ended up losing 1-0 away at Sarmiento in an even match. That result broke their eight-match unbeaten streak of four victories and four draws in league action, but the team remain on three points in the Liga Profesional and continue occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana berths in the aggregate table. Argentinos have been strong at home lately, grabbing 13 points from the last 15 on offer following four wins and one draw. Striker Gabriel Avalos is ready to return after his international duty with Paraguay’s national squad.
Independiente took an important step on their struggle to climb into the Copa Sudamericana places last Friday, when beating Talleres 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Lucas Romero. Eduardo Dominguez’s men accumulated four points from six on offer in the Liga Profesional and also made it three league games unbeaten, having won two and drawn one since losing to Lanus away in April. On a sorry note, El Rojo are winless in their last four domestic games on the road, grabbing only two points in that spell.
Argentinos will have their top scorer back and that should be enough for them to beat this irregular Independiente.
