Colon (Argentina) vs Olimpia (Paraguay)
Colon took a big step towards the Copa Libertadores’ round-of-16 in matchweek 4, when beating Cerro Porteno 2-1 at home. El Sabalero are on seven points in group G, trailing the Paraguayan side (who have already played five games) by one and they will secure their ticket to next round in the event of beating Olimpia on Wednesday. However, that success over Cerro was their only victory in the last nine competitive games, drawing five and losing three. Julio Falcioni’s men played their last match on May 9th, losing to Velez Sarsfield 2-1 at home (which stopped a four-match unbeaten streak of two wins and two draws at their own stadium). Following that result, Colon made it 16 points in 14 games in the league.
Olimpia secured a massive win in their last Libertadores game, when beating Penarol 1-0 at home. Following their first victory, the team made it five points and are trailing second-placed Colon by two, which means they depend on themselves to advance to the round of 16. On Sunday, El Decano also beat Tacuary 4-1 away to make it 30 points in 16 matches in the Paraguayan Torneo Apertura, 11 behind leaders Libertad. Olimpia lost only one of their last nine competitive matches, winning six and drawing two. On away turf, they were confident this year: six wins, two draws and four losses.
Colon looked good in their last Libertadores match and they should be able to get the win they need here.
