Bragantino (Brazil) vs Velez (Argentina)
Red Bull Bragantino succumbed to their first defeat in the Copa Libertadores last week, when they lost away at Estudiantes 2-0. As a result, they remain on four points in three games, but the team hold the chance of taking a big step towards the round of 16 as they remain second-placed by goal difference even though Nacional already played their MD4 game (also losing to Estudiantes last Tuesday). Last Saturday, O Massa Bruta won 1-0 away at Ceara SC to make it eight points in four games in the Brazilian league, which places them in second spot (one point behind leaders Corinthians). Bragantino lost only one of their last eight competitive matches (four wins and one draw) and they also are unbeaten in the last 13 at home, winning ten and drawing three.
Meanwhile, Velez Sarsfield are bottom-placed in the Copa Libertadores group C with a single point following their 2-1 home defeat to Nacional last week. However, they could get back on track with a win here. On Saturday, El Fortin beat newcomers Tigre 3-2 at home in league action to break a seven-match winless streak of four draws and three defeats in all competition and also make it 15 points in 13 games in domestic action. On a sorry note, Velez are on 12 away matches without a win, drawing five and losing seven since beating CA Central Cordoba 2-1 away in October.
Velez has been awful all season, especially when playing away, and they shouldn’t have a chance against this tough brazilian side.
