Fortaleza (Brazil) vs River Plate (Argentina)
Fortaleza EC keep their hope alive in the Copa Libertadores thanks to a much-needed 2-1 home success over Alianza Lima from Peru last week. The team collected their first three points in group F to trail second-placed Colo Colo by three after three rounds. On a sorry note, the team are yet to earn points in the Brasileirao following their 1-0 away defeat to Corinthians last Sunday. O Leao are yet to earn points in three games in league action this season. However, the aforementioned defeat stopped a four-match unbeaten streak in all competitions (three wins and one draw). Furthermore, Fortaleza are on three wins in a row at home.
River Plate remain perfect in the Copa Libertadores thanks to their 2-1 away victory at Colo Colo Colo in match week three. Having grabbed all nine points so far, the team opened a three-point gap over their last opponents, who occupy second place in group F. On Saturday, El Millonario found it easy to thrash Sarmiento 7-0 away from home and clinch their ticket to the Copa Liga Profesional’s quarter-finals with one round to go: Marcelo Gallardo’s men are sitting in the second place of the group A on 26 points, three points leaders Racing Club. River are on three games unbeaten in all competitions (two victories and one draw) and they also won seven of the last eight on the road, only losing to Talleres in that spell.
Fortaleza has proven to be a very weak team, even at home, and I don’t think they will be able to hold one of the best teams in this competition.
