Olimpia (Paraguay) vs Colon (Argentina)
Olimpia are bottom in group G with a single point in two games following their 2-1 away defeat at Penarol two weeks ago. However, they showed improvements from then on. Last Saturday, the team beat General Caballero JLM 3-2 away to make it three competitive games unbeaten (two wins and one draw) and climbed into third place in the Paraguayan league table, accumulating 21 points in 12 games (eight behind leaders Libertad). At home, El Decano registered five victories, three draws and two losses in 2022.
Meanwhile, Colon are now third-placed in group G as a result of their 3-1 away loss at Cerro Porteno in Paraguay in matchweek two. The team are now trailing Penarol (in second spot) by goal difference. Last Friday, El Sabalero settled for a 2-2 home draw against Estudiantes, which left them in an uncomfortable place in the Copa Liga Profesional: they remain on 16 points, four behind the last qualifying spots with just two rounds to go. In fact, Julio Falcioni’s men are on five winless games in all competitions, drawing four and losing one. On the road, Colon haven’t claimed any victories in the last five either, with three stalemates and two defeats since beating CA Central Cordoba in February.
Olimpia might not be at their best form but Colon definitely isn’t either. They won’t have their best striker and their important goalkeeper, so the hosts should take their first win in this competition.
