Copa Libertadores: Cerro Porteño (Paraguay) – Colon (Argentina) Odds for March 12, 2022

Cerro Porteño (Paraguay) – Colon (Argentina)

Cerro Porteno secured their first point in the 2022 Copa Libertadores following their 0-0 away draw in the Paraguayan Superclasico against Olimpia at Estadio Defensores del Chaco last Tuesday. On Saturday, coach Francisco Arce picked an alternative XI that also drew 0-0 away at General Caballero. The team remain second-placed in the Torneo Apertura with 22 points from 27 on offer, trailing leaders Libertad by three. In fact, El Ciclon are on four matches unbeaten in all competitions, having won two and drawn two in that spell. Furthermore, Cerro won eight of the last nine at home, only losing to Olimpia 2-0 on March 13rd.

Colon are leaders in group G thanks to their highly celebrated 2-1 home success over Uruguayan side Penarol with Facundo Farias netting the winner in stoppage time. However, that was their only success across the last six games in all competitions (three draws and two losses) following a 2-2 away stalemate at Rosario Central last Friday, when coach Julio Falcioni rested his regulars. Speaking of the league, El Sabalero are on 13 points in nine matches, sitting in fifth spot in group B and trailing fourth-placed Boca Juniors by three. Colon are on three away matches without a win, having drawn two and lost one since beating CA Central Cordoba 2-0 in February.

Cerro Porteno coach Francisco Arce will be without three important strikers as Marcelo Moreno Martins is going through a personal problem while Robert Morales and Alfio Oviedo succumbed to different injuries lately, and I can imagine a Colon happy with a draw so I’m expecting to see a tight and close game.
