Velez – Patronato
After three league games unbeaten (two victories and one draw), Velez Sarsfield succumbed to a 1-0 away defeat at Estudiantes in a hard-fought game last Saturday. However, that loss doesn’t count much for them as the team have already clinched their ticket to the Copa Libertadores 2022 and also secured their spot in the group stage. El Fortin produced a remarkable campaign in this tournament, accumulating 38 points. Furthermore, Velez are on nine home matches without defeat in this competition, having won seven and drawn two.
Patronato showed a worrying performance last Saturday and suffered a devastating 3-0 home defeat to Godoy Cruz. It was their second consecutive loss and the third across the last four league matches (with only one win in that spell). Ivan Delfino’s men earned only 23 points in as many matches in this tournament, which keeps them bottom in the relegation table. Furthermore, El Patron are winless in their last 11 away matches, having drawn four and lost seven. Right midfielder Gabriel Gudino will miss at least one more game due to his muscle issues.
Nothing to play for for either side, but I’m going with the hosts here as they are definitely the better team.
