River Plate – Racing Club
Through 16th Julian Alvarez’s goal in this competition, River Plate claimed a valuable 1-0 away success at Platense last Sunday. Thanks to that victory, the league leaders made it 49 points, nine above second-placed Talleres with four rounds to go, which means they could become champions on Thursday in the event of earning a point here (following Talleres’ loss at Gimnasia LP on Tuesday). El Millonario are without defeat in their last 16 league matches, having won 13 and drawn three in that spell. At home, they haven’t lost any of the last ten in this competition, with eight victories and two draws.
Racing Club lost to defending champions Colon 2-1 at home in an entertaining game last Sunday. It was their fourth defeat across the last six games in league action, along with a single win and one draw. As a result of this terrible run, La Academia remain on 26 points in the league table and are now occupying the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate standings, leading Gimnasia LP by only one point.
River needs only a draw to win their first league championship since 2014, but I’m sure they’ll try to do it in style with a win against this poor and irregular Racing.
