Colon vs Racing Club
Colon will seek their first top-flight title in history on Friday after beating Independiente 2-0 with Luis Rodriguez and Santiago Pierotti scoring in the semi-finals. Eduardo Dominguez’s men finished the first stage as group A winners and are now on four consecutive matches without defeat in this competition (winning two and drawing two in regular time). On a sorry note, their last loss was against Racing Club (2-1 away).
After becoming league champions in 2014 and 2019, Racing Club are fighting for a title again. Last Monday, Juan Antonio Pizzi’s men clinched their ticket to the final by beating Boca Juniors on penalties following a scoreless draw. Having finished in fourth spot in group A in the first stage, the team succumbed to a single defeat in the last five games in this competition, winning two and drawing two in regular time. Goalkeeper Gabriel Arias and defender Eugenio Mena are involved in the World Cup Qualifiers with Chile’s national squad and will miss this game.
This is the league final where Colon will try to get their first top league title ever. They are playing better than Racing, a very solid defensive team but not as good as their rivals.
