Sporting Cristal (Peru) vs Racing Club (Argentina)

Sporting Cristal are now bottom in the Copa Libertadores’ group E following their scoreless stalemate away at Rentistas from Uruguay. It was their first point in this competition and the side are trailing second-placed Racing Club by four points, so this is their big chance of approaching the qualifying zone. On Saturday, they beat Cusco FC 2-1 away to remain perfect in league action: Cristal won all seven games to open a nine-point gap over Cesar Vallejo, second-placed in group B. They are unbeaten in the last three in all competitions, winning two and drawing one. At home, the side won four and drew one of the last six, losing only once.

Racing Club showed a convincing version last Wednesday, when they settled for an entertaining 0-0 home draw against Sao Paulo from Brazil. As a result, they remain in second spot in group E on five points, three above third-placed Rentistas. On Sunday, La Academia managed to beat San Lorenzo 2-0 at home and climb into fourth place in group A to qualify for the league playoffs. Juan Antonio Pizzi’s men lost only one of their last six competitive matches, winning three and drawing two. However, Racing took only two points across the last four away games.

Racing was lucky to beat this peruvian team in a game full of goal opportunities for both, and I expect here another open game as the hosts are in a must win situation.
