San Lorenzo vs Gimnasia

San Lorenzo hold onto their chances in the Fase Campeonato after beating Atletico Tucuman 3-1 away last Tuesday. The team put an end to a four-match winless streak of three draws and one defeat in this competition to make it four points in the second stage, five behind leaders Banfield. At home, El Ciclon secured only two points from the last nine on offer since beating Argentinos Juniors 2-0 in November. San Lorenzo right back Victor Salazar saw a red card at Atletico Tucuman and is suspended.

Gimnasia LP wasted a big opportunity of climbing into second spot of the Fase Campeonato’s group B table last Monday, when drawing 2-2 with Talleres at home. That result means El Lobo managed four points in this second stage and are almost out of chances of advancing to the tournament’s final as they are trailing leaders Banfield by five.

The math is simple here: they both must win to keep their chances of reaching the final alive, and hope that Banfield doesn’t win later, so sooner or later they will both have to take risks and considering they are both missing important players in defense, I have to expect goals here.
